What a Statesville yard actually asks for

The soil series that gives half of Iredell County its drainage problems was described here first.

This is the type locality for the Iredell series

When USDA-NRCS described the Iredell soil series, the type locality they used was the Statesville area of Iredell County. This is literally the ground the series is named after: clay loam over clay, moderately well drained, very slow permeability. If your yard drains badly, it is not neglect — it is the soil doing exactly what it is classified to do.

Older in-town lots and newer edges are two different jobs

Statesville carries an older in-town housing stock with established grading and mature planting, and newer subdivisions on the outskirts where the yard starts as bare compacted subsoil. The first needs work that respects what is already there; the second needs a yard built from nothing. We quote them differently because they are not the same job.

Iredell County reviews the earthwork

Erosion and sediment control for Statesville runs through Iredell County. Anything that moves meaningful soil — a wall, a regrade, a large patio — is reviewed there. We confirm the threshold before the first cut.

FAQ

Statesville Landscaping Questions

What Statesville homeowners ask before starting a project.

Ask Us Anything →
Why is drainage such a common problem in Statesville?

Because of the soil. The Statesville area is the type locality for the Iredell soil series, classed by USDA-NRCS as very slowly permeable. Water does not move down through it, so it sits on the surface or runs sideways. Grading and a drainage path fix it; topsoil does not. Call 704-327-5663.

Do you work on older homes near downtown Statesville?

Yes, and we quote them differently. Established lots have mature roots, existing grade and often old drainage runs we need to find before we dig. That is a different job from a bare subdivision lot, and pretending otherwise is how people end up with a patio that fails.

Who issues the permit for a retaining wall in Statesville?

Erosion and sediment control is administered by Iredell County rather than the city. We check whether your project crosses the disturbance threshold before scheduling.

How far is your crew from Statesville?

We are based in Troutman, about fifteen minutes south. Statesville is core service area, not an outer edge.

Can I get my estimate in Spanish?

Yes. Our crew works in both languages, so the walk-through, the quote and the build all happen in the one you choose.

How much does landscaping cost in Statesville, NC?

We publish our ranges instead of making you call to find out. Most paver patios we build land between $14 and $24 per square foot installed, so a 300-square-foot patio — a grill area and a table for six — usually runs $4,200 to $7,200. Retaining walls price by exposed face, generally $28 to $45 per square foot. Where a job falls in that spread comes down to the paver you choose, how much dirt has to move, whether a machine can reach the back yard, and what the water is already doing. In Statesville most of what we price is patios, drainage, walls and sod. The estimate is free, on site, and in writing before anything starts — see the full cost breakdown or call 704-327-5663.
